Round 2 of Piano Lessons with GratuiTous Vol. 2!

So a question I asked in my other post was, “How Important Is Piano In Your Beats”.

And my Answer Is:

Well.. it depends what you are trying to accomplish!

Do you want those beautiful piano parts?

Well.. the answer would obviously be yes, you do need to know piano.

Do you need to know piano to create catchy melodies?

No.. but it helps times 100 lol.

So again, there are a few different ways you can make beats.  Watch this video about Piano vs. Sampling.

What I’ve done in this video,

Is I’ve tried to break down the basics to get you to understand how to improvise on the piano.

Again, this will only come with practice, but since you now know what notes are in that Key of D, you can now improvise!

Learn a chord progression that sticks out to you.  It can even just be 2 chords, not 4 as I was doing in this video.

Once you have a progression, for example, D – G – A – G

Then start to build off it.  Try and slowly move your right fingers to one note at a time, or try to play the chord in different inversions!

Also, sometimes playing a chord over top a different bass note can sound good as well.  For example, play a D chord in your right hand, but play a A chord in the left!

And don’t forget, if you get stuck, trying creating new rhythms!  1-2-3-4, or that syncopation I was talking about.  Also playing a couple notes soft, then one loud can have a big impact on your song!
