How important are meters while creating music?
Well, not so much important as you “create” your music.
But when it comes time to mixing and mastering, meters are a must!
As mentioned in the video, in my beginnings, I never took full advantage of meters.
Meters are how you know what’s going on inside your song!
Something you want to achieve in your mix is the balance.
What that means is, you want everything to complement each other. You don’t sounds way louder than others, unless you have purposely done that, and therefore, finding the “balance” to have a nice, enjoyable track to listen to!
For example,
In the chorus, you may boost up your synth, or piano a little extra loud to give it that “extra excitement”, but you don’t want one sound standing out and pulling away your attention from the song!
So, in this video, I’ve broken down some meters that have been very helpful to me:
3 of them are free, and 1 is not (T-RackS 3 Metering).
Although, the T-RackS 3 Metering is a real nice meter. It has everything you need all in one nice little GUI, it doesn’t take it too much space, it’s all organized, and again, it really has everything you need to see what’s going on inside your track. The Frequency Analyzer is really cool feature allowing you to see if you need more low or high into your track!
1. FL Studio’s Wave Candy (Free)
2. FL Studio’s Fruity Limiter (Free)
3. Sonalksis FreeG (Free)
4.T-RackS 3 Metering(Paid)
Now to the video,
So in the video, I’ve broken down the meters. How to use them, how I use them, and the benefits of them.
