Audio Technica 2035

I have always had troubles recording vocals. Before I had the Shure SM58, which is a dynamic microphone,  and the M-Audio Fast Track Pro.  Fast Track Pro has very weak pre-amps (a pre-amp is the power behind the volume of the vocal), so I had to go a buy a seperate Pre-Amp in order to get my vocals louder which was a Behringer Tube UltraGAIN Mic200.

BUT!  After all that being set up, I plugged in my Audio Technica 2035, turned on the Phantom Power and WOW!  I was able to hear my voice so clear and how ever loud I wanted.

This microphone is called a condenser.  It picks up your voice, instruments, or anything your trying to record, much easier than a dynamic microphone.

With this Audio Technica 2035 you will need Phantom Power.  All that Phantom Power does is just supplies your microphone power so you can actually use the microphone.  My M-Audio Fast Track Pro does not work good with microphones, dynamic or condenser, so I needed to buy a Pre-Amp in order to hear my vocals loud and clear! (see above for link)

The microphone is awesome.  I have used it for almost everyone of my productions that I have worked on and released.

Here are a couple more pictures to let you see more of it.

When I was looking at microphones to buy, I noticed there are some with switches, and some without.  This is 100% up to you, but just gives you more features when it comes time to record.  I find when I plug my microphone in to use with my Pre-Amp and M-Audio Fast Track Pro that it is what you call a very HOT signal.  Meaning it picks things up very easily and is almost too loud even if the volume is very low.  So that is the point of the Pad which is on the bottom right of the microphone.  It allows you to make the microphone a bit quieter.  There is also a Pad  on the Pre-Amp, and your Audio Interface most of the time.

The microphone comes with a -10dB Pad, and a low cut switch that cuts off the “Low end” frequencies of the vocal/instrument.

This is up to you, but I usually leave the low cut switch off. This way I can always edit out the low frequencies inside my music program with an EQ.

This is the bottom of the microphone.  And as you can see, it plugs in XLR.  Click here to find out more about XLR Cables.  If you are going to be using a Pre-Amp, most likely you will need to use 2 XLR cables.

And here is one more picture in case you are interested in buying it!

Rating: ★★★★★

The vocals I get out of this Audio Technica 2035 are so natural, solid, and crisp.  I have not used tons of microphones so I cannot compare to others, but it is much more sensitive than the Shure SM58 which is a dynamic microphone.  It is about $150 and now that I have a microphone I can use with clear/loud vocals, I am very happy and I actually enjoy recording now!

Piano Lessons With GratuiTous Vol. 1

How important is piano in your beats?

Well do you even use a piano or do you just sample?

I personally stay away from sampling for:

  1. Copyright Issues
  2. I love creating beautiful beats from scratch

Now that does not mean sampling is bad!  Just how I go about making my beats.  I do recommend you practice sampling to learn “all areas of beat making” so that you can take and use different techniques in different areas at different times etc.

So if you are like me, and always use a piano in your productions, learning the piano is very important.

Learning different scales, learning how to improvise, meaning to be able to just sit down and play the piano without having to read sheet music etc.

So here in this video I break down the scale of C Major.  Remember, no black notes!  Improvisation will come with time, but just keep following the tips in the video, practice your inversions and you will eventually be able to start improvising on your keys!

This is an important part of the video.  At the end Beatstruggles is about to launch a business idea to help save you guys as producers money on your sound packs.  If you can sign up for the mailing list below, it will help the process go smoother and only save you money.  I will keep you guys up to date with that for sure!

Sounds IN HD – High Impact Review

In this kit you get:

  • 75 Kicks
  • 75 Snares
  • 73 Percussion
  • 18 Loops

Ok so I thought I would make a video review of the kit to keep things personal ;) .  Check out the sound pack review video and beat making video.  You may learn a few tricks/tips!

There’s just like so many sounds that are good sounding, and I want to add them all in! (From Beatmaking video @ 9:33)

– GratuiTous

So for the written part of this review I have nothing but good for this kit.  I’ve been on a hunt to find an exceptional kit and I have honestly finally found it.  The kicks in this kit are amazing.  They give you such flexibility to layer, create any genre, and are just so clean and powerful.  I am over-excited at the moment because of Sound in HD’s High Impact.  This really is an industry standard.

Check out two beats I put together to get an idea of the kit!

The snares are awesome, such unique sounds.  From those real crunch snares that I am always looking for in my other reviews, to those super epic snares, to that real “crack”.  These snares are a powerhouse, yet at the same time as gentle as you want them to be.  Nothing but non-stop creativity for me at the moment!

The only downside to this kit as I mentioned in the video is no hats, cymbals, toms etc.  But it comes with LOADS of percussion which is exceptional also!  And there are always ways around no hats, watch the video ;) .

I would say this is a more of a “add-on” kit rather than a producer starter kit kind of kit.  So if you don’t have hats/cymbals I would get another kit PLUS THIS KIT lol.  For real, this kit is a must.  I struggled with my sounds before and this has opened up a new door for me!

The claps are also unreal.  Again, also like the snares, super epic, those hard crunch kind of claps, and also those super gentle claps allowing you for all genres.  All these sounds are so loud and crisp.  This kit makes my sound packs @ Beatstruggles.com look ashamed that it makes me think I should just give mine for free.

I personally am not a producer that likes to use others created loops, but the loops created are very sick and inspirational.  If you teach try to mimic the loops in this kit they could really teach you a lot.

Once again, nothing but good.

I am amazed with the quality.  This kit is a must, it outshines all my other kits by far.  Thank-you for the quality Sounds IN HD!  The only downside is no hats/cymbals, but they have them in every other kit they have put out!  Also maybe a super deep 808 Lex Luger style to allow for “all” types of music.  I am over impressed if that is humanly possible.
